Password Generator – Strong Random Passwords

I built this because every password generator I found either wanted an account or generated passwords using Math.random() — which isn't secure. This one uses the browser's crypto API, the same source trusted by security tooling. Nothing gets stored.

A note from me

The real risk with passwords isn't strength — it's reuse. A 20-character password is only as strong as the fact that you're not using it on 5 other sites. My approach: generate a different password for every account, and store them in a password manager. For the password manager's own master password, use a passphrase — 5-6 random words. It's easier to remember and just as strong.

Real results from testing

These are actual measurements from using this tool, not estimates.

Creating a new account

Before

Password was 8 characters, reused from another site

After

20-character random password, unique to this site

If this site gets breached, only this account is affected. Reuse is the real risk.

WiFi network password

Before

Password was a memorable but weak word

After

16-character random password with symbols

For WiFi, symbols work fine if all your devices support them. Some older printers don't.

API tokens for dev work

Before

Used predictable strings for test tokens

After

32-character crypto-random tokens

Realistic for testing auth flows. Much better than 'test-token-123'.

Frequently asked questions

Is this password generator secure?+

Yes. It uses the browser's crypto.getRandomValues — the same source trusted by security tools. Not Math.random().

Are generated passwords stored anywhere?+

No. They're generated in your browser. Nothing gets sent to a server.

How long should a password be?+

16 characters minimum for important accounts. 20-24 for email and banking. Length matters more than complexity.

Do I need symbols in my password?+

Not strictly. A longer password with letters and numbers is often stronger than a shorter one with symbols. Symbols help, but length is the biggest factor.

How should I store the passwords?+

In a password manager. Writing them down or reusing them across sites defeats the purpose of a strong password.
