The single biggest resume mistake: making it pretty for humans before making it readable for ATS. Most companies screen resumes through software first. The software wants: standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills), no tables, no columns, no graphics, no unusual fonts. A pretty resume might never be read by a human. Keep it simple. The design can come later in the interview.
