Tracking food spending for a month
Before
Assumed ~$300/month on food, no actual data
After
Tracked real spending — was $480
The 60% gap between assumption and reality was the eye-opener. Cut takeout down and saved $150 the next month.
I built this after trying a few finance apps that wanted my bank login. I'm not giving that to an app. This tracker just logs expenses by category — food, transport, bills — and shows where the money went. Everything stays in your browser.

The habit that made this useful for me: log expenses at the moment they happen, not at the end of the day. Trying to remember what you spent 8 hours ago is unreliable. Two seconds after you pay — that's when it takes 10 seconds to log. Also, don't try to track every category at once. Start with one — food or transport — and add categories once the habit sticks.
