Loan Tracker – Manage Borrowed and Lent Money

I built this after losing track of who owed me what across friends and family. Not awkward to ask when you have a clean record — and not awkward when you realize you owe someone and forgot. Log transactions, see balances, mark as settled. Everything stays on your device.

A note from me

The habit that made this work: log the loan on the same day. Waiting even a week, you forget the exact amount or the reason. Also, for family loans, note the reason — 'lent for rent' vs 'lent for groceries' — that context makes a difference at tax time if it's a substantial amount. For small loans between friends, don't over-formalize. A quick log is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Is my financial data uploaded?+

No. Everything is stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing gets sent to a server.

Can I track both directions?+

Yes. Mark each transaction as Lent (they owe you) or Borrowed (you owe them).

How are balances calculated?+

The tool sums lent amounts minus repayments, and borrowed amounts minus repayments, to show net position per person.

Can I mark a loan as settled?+

Yes. Once repaid, mark it settled. The record stays for your history but no longer counts toward the balance.

Does it survive a browser refresh?+

Yes. Data persists in localStorage across sessions. Clearing browser data will erase it.
